Much has been said about the Catalan trainer taking up the reigns of the great Spanish football club at the end of the last season’s campaign, however, a majority is convinced that he will face tremendous difficulty in matching his predecessor.
Experts are easily willing to believe that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 head coach, Tito Vilanova, has quite a handful to deal with in his first season as the new manager of the club.
The mentor was the assistant coach of the Spanish giants when the club was coached by Pep Guardiola. During Guardiola’s 4 years in charge of the club, Vilanova got used to the system which he is aspiring to live up to at the current moment.
The Spaniard was the board’s first pick as an appropriate trainer for the club after Guardiola announced that he will not be renewing his contract with La Blaugrana, towards the end of the last season’s campaign.
The board made a hasty decision and did not let many rumours surface regarding the man to replace Pep. The quickness of the decision was applauded by many and the club president sat on his seat with a smug smile, satisfied with his decision.
However, the question remains the same, have Barcelona done the right thing to provide Tito Vilanova with a chance to lead the club towards further success.
While the Camp Nou faithful are convinced that he can surely make his mark, there are others who are strenuously concerned about the Catalan giants losing their glamour in the foreseeable future.
During Guardiola’s four seasons at the club, Barca saw great success and the club was steered to reach new heights in the modern game. With players such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carles-Puyol-c8331, the Catalans established a legacy which
eclipsed many former success stories associated with the beautiful game.
In his first season, Pep inspired the Blaugrana to six trophies in one year. This was a record for any football club in the history of the beautiful game. Obviously, the feat was so rare that even Guardiola was not able repeat it.
However, even though the club could not win six trophies in the following seasons, they did manage to assert their supremacy over the rest of Europe. With two UEFA Champions League titles in three years and three consecutive Spanish La Liga trophies, La
Azulgrana had become an indomitable force in the Iberian Peninsula.
While Guardiola remained in charge of the Catalans, they were a force to be reckoned with and they carried the reputation of being massively destructible.
Nevertheless, it is important to note that even the former Catalan trainer had merely managed to carry on the philosophy which was improvised by his predecessor, Frank Rijkaard. The Dutchman had woken up a sleeping giant, although it was Guardiola who took
the giant and used it for the destruction of other teams.
Interestingly, Vilanova is content with doing the same. He has shown that he lacks the ability of bringing about a unique and significant change at the Nou Camp, and hence he is satisfied with the way things were run during the past 4 years.
Even more interestingly, the inexperienced trainer gave Barcelona the best start to their La Liga campaign ever.
However, the question remains the same, can Vilanova live upto Guardiola? We can only wait and see.
