Can Tony Romo and Dallas Cowboys win the title this year? (Part I)
The Dallas Cowboys and their quarterback Tony Romo together make a strong pair. They have class and style, but unfortunately no Super Bowl title.
Cowboys won their last Super Bowl title in the 1995 season, while Romo has been playing as Cowboys’ regular starter since 2006 without winning the Super Bowl.
Romo joined the Cowboys in 2003 and it took him three seasons to earn the confidence of the management to get the starting role.
In his career, the quarterback has led the Cowboys into the playoffs three times, but the team was not even able to win the National Football Conference (NFC) championship.
This leaves Romo in a difficult situation. He has made it to the prestigious Pro Bowl roster three times, but does not have any other achievement under his belt.
Consider his New York Giants’ counterpart Eli Manning for an example. He has been playing for the Giants since 2004 and has won two Super Bowl rings.
This has further increased expectations from Romo. Every year, fans expect the Cowboys to at least get a shot at the Super Bowl title, if not win it, but they have been facing disappointment since more than a decade now.
Romo and playoffs
Cowboys’ first playoff appearance since Romo became the starter was in the 2006 season in which the Cowboys had won nine games in the regular season and lost seven to qualify for the postseason.
The Cowboys were defeated by the Seattle Seahawks (21-20) in the first playoff game.
Romo’s second playoff appearance was in the 2007 season. The Cowboys had won 13 games in the regular season and lost three to reach the playoffs. The team was once again sent packing in the first playoff game after facing a defeat against the New York Giants
(21-17).
The latest playoff appearance of the Cowboys with Romo leading the offence was in the 2009 season. The Cowboys had won 11 games in the regular season while losing only five to reach the postseason.
The Cowboys won their first playoff game in the season after beating the Philadelphia Eagles (34-14). However, they were eliminated after facing a defeat in the second playoff game in which Minnesota Vikings defeated them (34-3).
So Romo has so far registered four playoff appearances and has won only one game. The Cowboys could have reached the playoffs last season as well. In the 2011season, Romo registered his career best stats, but the Cowboys still was unable to reach the postseason.
