Can U.S. doctors work in other countries without additional certification?

I am an incoming pre-med/spanish major at the U of West Chester in PA and have interest in practicing abroad temporarily and/or permanently as I would like to do humanitarian work. I have a strong interest to work in either Latin America or South America and maybe one day Spain or another EU nation. If I became certified in the U.S. will that be recognized in countries such as Costa Rica, Spain, and the UK or would I have to take additional courses and exams? I know doctors coming to the US need to have residency here in order to practice which makes me wonder is this the reverse. Or would it be better to study medicine in another country all together?

  1. Doctors on humanitarian missions often do not need extra certification and are covered by the parent organization.  If you actually move to another country, it depends on which country you move to.  More developed countries are more likely to require certification.

  2. I can only speak of the UK,but a rigourous training would be given before a certified Doctor from another country can practice. It is all a matter of doing things our way and not how it is done elsewhere. The Uk has some of the best Medical teams in the world even though they do come under criticism quite often .
