Can UK councils have road signs pointing in the wrong direction and enforce the related penalties

Can UK councils, (The London Borough of Bromley), have road signs pointing in the wrong direction so that they cannot be easily seen and enforce the related penalties or is that not some kind of entrapment.

After all if you have for example purchased a parking ticket or have some kind of parking exemption badge you must clearly display it in your car when parking in the related, restricted parking area or get a fine.

surely the councils must also display their signs clearly or can the councils have road signs pointing in the wrong direction so that they cannot be easily seen and enforce the related penalties

Does any one know what is the legal situation here, or what the law says on this subject or where I can find more information

Thanks

  1. Nope, but they like you to think they can! This happened to my Friend and he took photo's of the sign and how it was concealed and appealed it. He WON his case! Get your camera out hun, and good luck.

  2. m8 if the police can wright a ticket and spell the name wrong and also put the wrong vehicle down and it counts I'm sure the council can put signs the wrong way and it will count.

you must remember you are talking about council workers NOT THE BRIGHTEST of people

tho i don't know what excuse the policeman would have unless our standards for the force have dropped maybe the pc was ex council ?

  3. If that Council is anything like the Ealing Council you wil never get them to admit their fault. They would ignore you only because they might have to refund illegal fines imposed on people who paid the money.  Entrapment and Collecting revenue by Fines has become a norm .The Councillors are impotent . The only possible solution is to go through all that is thrown at you to discourage you and Appeal and be stubbornly active.

  4. If you can prove the sign wasn't clearly visable (from the right direction), you can appeal against any penalties. They shouldn't be able to enforce anything that is not clearly displayed.

  5. you can appeal with the appropriate picture of offending sign, but they will also investigate as to whether you moved the sign yourself.

  6. I'm sure they have to have the signs the correct way, i'm sure that is entrapment. But, like the first poster said - they could turn that onto you saying you did it. Perhaps you need proof? Take some pictures. I'm not totally sure, i can't find anything on google. You could call someone like RAC, lawyer or someone who works in a driving school - perhaps they would know.

Heres some links away, not sure if they will be of any use.
