  1. Unfortunately, occupation doesn't have a "finish".  We finished the "war" a long time ago.  Now, we can only sit there getting shot at until we get tired of it or until public sentiment there changes, which should only take about 2 generations or so.  The other option, which is the most politically expedient and serves our short term goals, is to establish a friendly regime to suppress the people we're fighting with and pull our troops out.  Then hope they don't get overthrown- what I call the "Pullout and pray method".  The answer to your question in short?  Not really.

  2. no i don't think their is a military solution. more a political solution.

even if they killed a 100 taliban a day they will just keep on sprouting up again from the many madrases and mosques in pakistan. the afghans don't care about living only dying for their god.

i think the only way is to either exterminate their whole race, or create another militia that hates the taliban like the shias in afghanistan.

then the NATO in afghanistan can take a break and let other people do their dirty work for them and get on with the real task,

completing the oil pipeline from central asia!

  3. No because

    1. There is no real Taliban in that the population of Afghanistan are the Taliban the moment they object to US rule (yes through the puppet Karzai government) which of course they have and do and will - are you going to kill all the Afghanis?

    2. The Taliban are in many respects Pakistani puppets and they  can run over into Pakistan and come back when they like.

    3. Because the US does not have the support of the population (invaders never do) so unless you kill them all or at least half of them you can never win.

    4. You don't want to win. Then you have to leave - which is losing. The US needs the pipelines through Afghainstan so it can steal the oil and gas.

  4. no

there will always be extreme groups that hate us and will simply move or migrate to a different country

  5. I don't know how many Taliban fighters there are in Iraq, but hopefully they can be sent packing in Afghanistan. They have been regaining a little of their momentum in the last few months though, so an increased focus on Afghanistan seems to be uppermost in the minds of those who are looking at military strategy.

  6. The Taliban are in Afghanistan not Iraq.  They are heavily supported from outside the country and could be militarily defeated. ( In the same way the Oman campaign was succesful in the 1970's)  The insurgency in Iraq is a cvil conflict along religious, political and tribal/ethnic lines.  It is what is described as a 'low level conflict'.  There is no clear enemy to defeat in such a civil war, because those described as 'extremists' are just that - they are people holding positions at the extremes of the views held by much of the rest of the population.  There is only one course of action to be taken there, and that is to 'keep a lid' on things to prevent all out civil war, until an internal political compromise arises between the opposing parties.  This has happened in a number of places in the past, notably in Lebanon,  and in Northern Ireland.  There is unlikely to be a totally placid society, but a functioning country is possible.

  7. Yes

  8. i doubt it. it's been ages, and the recovery power of the taliban is really great. they're able to recruit new members and recover from attacks very fast. their power base has been destroyed, but they're still able to function, which amazes me.

  9. i've got two more questions.. what would they find in afghanistan: osama or WMD? and what would be the next country to secretly have the WMD?
