i think he clearly has the potential to do it, he is holding back on alot of his power, i think he is more concerned about winning than setting records otherwise he wouldve pushed himself harder in the 100m. so we will either see him smash it or start an early celebration i reckon.

There was really no question that he would; and he did 19.30. . .remarkable and quite effortless.

He sure can try to. He did break the WR in 100 M all we need to do is see if he does that in the 200 M. He is real good runner tho nice sprint.

its not even the gap with which he is winning

it is the effortlessness

I don't think he is pushing himself to  his limit, record or not

I'm not sure.  If he starts coasting in the finals like he did in the 100m, then no.  If he runs full force for 200m, I wouldn't be surprised.  Given everything that has happened so far, I think he comes close but doesn't get it yet.

Added: Well, looks like there's a new world fastest man (in my mind, that title belonged to Michael Johnson until someone broke that 200 record).

I asked this yesterday and people were tied- half thought yes, half thought yes but he wont cos he wont run hard enough.

Bolt has promised to give it his all right until the very end.

200 is his speciality and he wants this bad.

However.... Johnson's record is what... 19.32s I think?? Bolt is currently running about 19.64 ish. Its obviously not as straight forward as people think.

I don't think Bolt can break the record just yet. But hes only 21, sprinters peak at 24/25, and I think he will break it in the near future. Just not tonight.

I hope I am wrong.

It is amazing watching Bolt.  He runs so effortlessly.  His top speed is far faster than the field.  And then he starts jogging 30 m before the line and no one can even make up ground on him.  His competitors are breathing hard, he is not.

Once Bolt gets up to speed, he runs like a 400m runner, fast and efficient.  I suspect he could have that record too if he wants it.

Bolt did it!  And against a 0.9 m/s wind!  Amazing.  Can't wait to see the video.
