since this software is more consumer-level (but still tough as h**l to understand), how well can it work with different frame rates? I've read that it does fine with 60i, but that there can be problems when trying to edit 24p and 30p with it. is this true?

  1. 24p and 30p are generally "embedded" in a 60i stream. Since There are more fields in 60i than there are frames in 24p, certain fields can be duplicated in a 3:2 order so that it comes out to be 60i (aka 3:2 pulldown). In 30p, the frame rate is the same, so each frame is split up into fields, but since the frame was taken at one point in time instead of two, it retains the progressive look. More or less the same with 24p. You shouldn't have any problems editing any of this footage technically, but with 24p, since some frames appear for 1.5 frames due to 3:2 pulldown, cutting can technically occur at a point where there are two different fields, but in reality, you really shouldn't have any problems editing nor should you notice anything. However, you shouldn't remove pulldown after editing 24p video. Vegas does have a 1080i 24p preset though, so if you do decide to remove pulldown, you can edit true 24 fps with this preset. Hope this helps!
