Can Venus Williams pass Serena Williams to win sixth Wimbledon tennis championship

The American tennis sensation Venus Ebony Starr Williams was born on 17th June, 1980 in the United States of America. Williams is currently listed Number 1 in the women double’s ranking and Number 2 in the singles. However, the Women Tennis Association has named her as the Number 1 singles player in the women tennis thrice during different time periods. She jumped to the number one position first of all on 25th February, 2002.

Williams has so far won a total of twenty one titles in a Grand Slam event along with her three gold medals at Olympics which has made her the only women tennis player to do so. Her unbeaten performance stretching over a period from the Wimbledon tournament 2002 till the Generali Ladies Linz Championship 2002 set a record in the game of tennis.

Serena Williams who is currently ranked as the Number One tennis player in the world is the younger sister of Venus Williams. Both the sisters have contested against each other in a total of twenty three international matches over the last twelve years. Serena won thirteen of them as of September, 2009. The pair together has triumphed in twelve Grand Slam tournaments.

Venus Williams is one of the most energetic and powerful base line players with an attacking play style. The American ace looks more relaxed while playing on a grass court as her titles at Wimbledon also suggests the same. Over the years, Venus has emerged as an effective volleyer and cleverly makes use of her grass court. The low level bounciness of the grass sets her first serve one of her strongest weapons. Moreover, Venus has some excellent flow on the  grass as well however clay is not the girl’s best friend for sure but still she has managed to grab a couple of titles even there so far in her tennis career.

The American tennis star has received a couple of awards so far including WTA player of the year in 2000, Double’s team WTA award along with her sister Serena, Bets female tennis player award by ESPY in 2001, Most Favourite female Sports Star by Harris poll in 2004, Glamour Magazine's star of the Year award in 2005, Best Female Tennis Player award again by ESPY in 2006, ITF Women's Doubles Champion award in 2009, Caesars Tennis Classic Achievement award and a lot more.

Venus Williams has won a total of five trophies in Wimbledon. The 30 years old Venus started off this season once again nicely with a victory over Rossana De Los Rios in a 6-3 6-2 match set. Williams will face the Russian player Ekaterina Makarova in her second round match today.

The second seeded American takes every match equally important as another step heading towards the final of the tournament and is well prepared for the contest against Makarova as well, said the Williams.

Prior to the Wimbledon tournament, Venus has played a number of matches some starting off slowly while others quickly finding the pace meaning by that every game is not the same and so the results should not be compared with each other as well.

Kim Clijsters while commenting on her match against the Number 104 Karolina Sprem said that it is surely going to be a hard challenge however the good thing about it is that it even helps you concentrate more on your game. Clijsters performed pretty good in her recent matches as well that will definitely help her in boosting up her confidence. Her match in the first round of the tournament also reflected her good form at the moment.

As far as Venus Williams is concerned, the question is whether she will be able to win another Wimbledon title this time? If the American tennis ace carries on with her present form, no one in the world including her top seeded sister Serena Williams can stop her from the sixth Wimbledon trophy.
