  1. take it to the store in which you bought it from and ask for xp

  2. Microsoft will not support XP any longer. :-( Your best option would be to return the thing and get a MacBook. You CAN have XP and MacOS on any Apple computer. In fact, Windows runs BEST on an Apple computer. Isn't that crazy? But it's 100% the truth.

  3. You can indeed downgrade Vista Business and Vista Ultimate to XP which is why some PC manufacturers provide an XP disc with those versions of Vista.

    Follow the steps here.

  4. you can install XP over vista, but you'll need to remove vista first

  5. Not since June 30, 2008. At least, no store can replace Vista with Windows XP anymore. Some business licenses from Dell and others do have an "XP Downgrade" option which is sold at the time of the PC sale. If you do have a Windows XP install disk, and it is not yet licensed to any other computer, some Vista pre-installed computers can be downgraded to run on Windows XP. But you may not find all of the XP drivers you need, so it's still a craps-shoot.

Try linux, but run a live CD first. Not all Vista hardware can be run under linux. Ubuntu is my favorite distribution of linux.

  6. Sometimes, yes. It depends on whether the drivers for your hardware exist for for Windows XP.

  7. You can install any Linux/Windows based OS you want on your hardware considering you have a legit license for that OS.

But why downgrade?  Vista really isn't that bad, don't buy in to the Apple commercials... form your own opinion.

  8. Microsoft offers a downgrade service/license with which you can replace Vista with XP.  Details about this service can be found on the Microsoft website.  Alternatively, you could switch to Linux, which is free and more reliable than Vista (and XP).  If this sounds intimidating, you might want to check out some of the versions of Linux which are specially-made for people who want to switch away from Microsoft products.  Freespire, for example is made to feel almost exactly like Windows XP.  If you do not like the way XP looks and would like to try something that looks cooler and cleaner, you might try one of the Ubuntu varieties.  These are also made for people who are new to Linux and/or new to computers.  All types of Linux are supported by highly-skilled communities of users who are willing and able to help you with any problem you have (they even provide step-by-step instructions to help you optimize your experience).

  9. If you got your OS with the CD then install it again, otherwise you may have to buy XP, of course this is the legal way to go about it.
