Can Vladimir Guerrero find himself back in the Los Angeles Angels’ jersey?
Is it even possible? Sure! Nothing’s impossible in Major League Baseball when the trading season is on. For the Los Angeles Angels and Vladimir Guerrero, that could be the story of the year. Moves are restricted in the offseason
period and the free agency is running cold with a depleting number of players available for clubs across the country.
The need for players is growing in the market and the top teams in the league are almost done spending resources on free agents. Some of the best players are acquired and the teams are locking their squads for the spring training
period. However, the timeline still sees the offseason in play for another 5 weeks, at least. Hence, teams with needs are still trying to make their case in the closing days as the countdown nears to the end of the off time.
The Los Angeles Angels have been in search of a big hitter this season. Their winter break started with Hideki Matsui moving to the free agency and that created a need in the roster. General Manager Mike Scioscia was majorly active
during the winter meetings and he was targeting major players in the country.
The Angels were said to be in chase of Cliff Lee, Carl Crawford and Adrian Beltre. However, their pursuits have run cold and they are now locked in a situation which gives them an option in Vladimir Guerrero. The former Angels
player found himself out of a club when the Texas Rangers denied him an option and arbitration in the winter break. Now Vlad faces a possibility of returning to the Angels.
"Well, Vladdy's been one of the guys obviously we've talked about for a while, and I think it's the same situation," Scioscia said. "Vlad signed with the Rangers before last year's season because he was looking for a multiyear
deal, a big deal at the time. We had to make a decision. There was no way to commit to three or four years with Vlad, that we could go that route."
Mike went on to talk about Guerrero and his options.
"If it is the same situation right now," Scioscia said, highlighting Guerrero's situation, "Obviously, nothing much would change, but he's definitely a guy that's very interesting to look at. And he's got a number of teams I know
that are going to look and are going to try to get Vlad."
