Can YA actually be used for a greater good, to educate people of the big problems they may not know exist?

Whether it be economical, environmental or moral..

Will anyone see any of this as credible?

  1. Well, I personally try. I didn't know natural gas (methane)powered vehicles existed 9 months ago, but now I have 2 of them and have tried to spread the word in any way I can. These vehicles are way cleaner for the environment and way cheaper to fill up ($10 in Utah) and the automakers have been making them in the factory for years, so it's not even a new technology. We got sick of paying high prices for gasoline and started looking for alternatives and came across these. They're awesome, and that's what I've been spending my time online doing - trying to get the word out that there are alternatives that regular people can afford. And, I try to remember to list my sources, too...

  2. I so agree.  You can only lead a horse to water, not a mule.  I just got thru at another question about SARS and these 2 ppl from China were just attackg this greencar avatar who was saying that China needs to stop eating the rare animals.  They were saying that it wasn't true and two avatars with chinese writing for their names were getting all riled up then saying it was a conspiracy because the one avatar knew the other...ugh.  it's just not the best way to get to know this place.  I've had another account b4 with my x and he would tell me but this is so harsh!  it's true that theppl in Asian countries do this (the prog I saw was about China).  It's like when it's about politics & countries we're not supposed to disagree, or just don't talk about it.

It's like being told to shut-up.  What is up with that?

  3. What you see as a "big problem" may not be of any importance to me and vice versa. If you want to preach, craigslist.org has some interesting forums, including one for ecology.

Y!A reminds me of when I was young and hucksters would come by with horse-drawn wagons. The horses, being horses, would leave traces of their passage in the street. When they left, the English sparrows would appear and hunt for the undigested grain in the horse f***s. That is what Y!A is like, a grain here and a grain there, but an awful lot of horse-manure in between.

  4. I read once about Lee DeForest (he was the one who invented the first amplifying vacuum tube back in the early 1900s though there are some disputes....)

He came to regret the culture which grew up around his invention and the amount of rubbish which spewed over the air waves - especially commercials.

I think the internet and YA are able to turn into a kind of a cesspool for human refuse.

You can give a bunch of monkeys access to a supercomputer - but unless the monkeys are educated in the best use of the computer, all they will end up doing is pooping all over it.
