  1. In a cover letter, you are selling yourself verbally, beyond the simple facts of a resume. This is where you tout your strengths - attention to detail, working unsupervised, any specific experience that is relevant - make sure you use good spelling and precise language. and end with a request to speak with your potential employers, and thank them for their time.If you have any drawbacks, this is where you explain them. I had a non-competition agreement with my previous employer, and found out after a few months that when they were called, they agreed, that yes, they were satisfied with my work, but that they had a non-competition agreement that they were prepared to enforce in court, without any details. When I learned this, I changed my cover letter to explain that yes, I had a non-competition agreement, but THESE were the terms, therefore non-applicable to my prospective employer - and got hired.

  2. Start off at the top in the centre with your full name.

Underneath put your address, telephone number, and email address. eg:

    John Smith

    10 Red Road

    Manchester

    WY2 0EH

    Tel: 01456 222333

    Email: JohnSmith@yahoo.co.uk

Below that, put in your date of birth, national insurance number (if you have one) Nationality and Driving licence number (again, if you have one).eg:

    DOB: 28.05.89

    National Insurance no: J 23 76 95 Z

Then, put a title "Education and Qualifications"

Start off with the most recent college / school attended, along with dates. Underneath put subjects & grades achieved. If you dont have the grades yet, just put the subjects you're currently studying. eg:

    Manchester College 2007 - Present

    Math Alevel  -  B

    English AS level  -  D

French AS level (grade to be confirmed)

After all of that, put Work experience. Put the name of the company as each title with dates, then put a short paragraph underneath explaining your duties and achievements. eg:

Whilst at school, I worked for ******** on work experience placement for one week. Through this placement I gained experience working both with individual customers and groups visiting, as well as the computer system currently in place.

Finish it off with "Other Interests and Achievements". This is the place to mention you were once a scout, or you worked with kids on a summer camp, or play football on the weekend. Mention things like "working as a team" etc.

    Good luck!
