  1. Using a composite video cable set as a component video set?

    Not recommended, as the cheap cable (if you're looking at a typical packet on a rack set) will not do justice to the signal quality. It should work though, and a short length should not to too much harm to the signal quality.

    No need to go mad the other way though, just as really cheap cables are poor economy, the most expensive are also hard to justify.

  2. short answer is yes, as long as the cable is short, 1 meter max.  the reason you might not want to do this is the red/white cable pair is meant for audio, and may not be adequate for high resolution video.  The wire in a  component video set is made with attention to having the proper 75 ohm impedence at high frequencies, and a braided shield that will prevent interference, including cross-talk between leads.

  3. well the only one that would work would be the red one, but composite cables can be placed in component ports, and vice-versa
