Can Yeon Ryu defend her title at the US Open Championship?
The US Open championship is going to be held at Blackwolf Run, Kohler Wisconsin from July 2-8, with the defending champion Yeon Ryu eyeing yet another victory.
Ryu won the last event in an amazing style and made a name for herself in women’s golf.
However, this year, the field is expected to be more fearsome due to the participation of some of the big names.
The current world number one, Yani Tseng, is gearing up to play the major championship, with big plans in her mind.
However, the South Korean appears to be pretty confident after racking up the title in the last edition of the US Open.
Ryu is well aware that she will have to walk a tight rope to record another victory at Kohler because the roster is featuring the best players in women’s golf.
Observers seem divided on the question about which player will steal the show at the Open.
Some are pointing out that Ryu is expected to win the event, given her stellar performance last year at Broadmoor Golf Club, East Course.
It makes sense to bet on the South Korean prodigy, because the tournament is going to be as unpredictable as it has always been.
Meanwhile, it may be helpful to have a look at Ryu’s performance in order to predict how she is going to fare against her rivals, especially Yani Tseng.
Ryu performed amazingly well at the Broadmoor Golf Club, as she trampled her fellow South Korean, Hee Kyung, in the playoff. Ryu’s magic form stunned the spectators on the course.
Winning her first victory on the LPGA Tour gave a big boost to Ryu, as she had long been seeking to grab the much-hyped event.
“When I was start, golf Se Ri Pak won the (1998) U.S. Women's Open tournament, so this tournament is really special for me. But I won this tournament, so I'm really happy and unbelievable,” Ryu said of her stellar performance.
Ryu pocketed a hefty $585,000 by winning the title.
Speaking of her performance, Ryu said that her putting has improved quite a lot over the years.
The 2012 US Open also is expected to see a stellar performance from the South Korean, as she has been training vigorously on the practice range.
She stated, "In the morning when I hit the 16th hole tee shot, I (was) really nervous, so I couldn't smile. But my caddie keep talking, 'So Yeon, just smile. Calm down.' So I felt a little bit more comfortable. And then I don't know why, but I just like
16th hole".
She added, "Actually hole 18 is really difficult, but I made a birdie the second round, so I had a little bit more confidence in there".
It is logical enough to predict that Ryu can inflict a humiliating defeat on her rivals, given her spectacular performance in the past event.
However, the situation is not as simple as it seems. Taiwanese Tseng may prove a tough contender.
The current world number one is in good form these days, as she kicked off the 2012 season by grabbing a victory.
She managed to defend her title at Honda LPGA held at Siam Country Club.
Tseng is perhaps the most competent female golfer of her times, but golf is unpredictable. Betting on one player is hard, as there are many things that play their part in assisting him/her win a match.
Ryu is definitely going to steal the show, as she is determined not to surrender to her nerve.
