  1. Depends on where you live. But take it from someone whose been through it: You don't want a c-section. The recovery preiod is h**l unless you have someone there for 6 weeks to look after you and your baby.

  2. They normally don't perform c-sections unless there it's necessary like, your not dilating fast enough, the baby's' heartbeat is going down, or the baby is breech, etc.

  3. As far as I know, they don't allow elective c-sections UNLESS you've had a previous c-section. Trust me, you don't want a c-section. The actual surgery isn't bad, but the time afterwards isn't pleasant.

  4. Not really. These days, most doctors will only perform a C-section if it's medically necessary. Remember, having a C-section equates to having surgery. If it's not necessary, then your doctor won't do it.

  5. A lot depends on your doctor.  Some will let you choose a c-section, but many won't do one unless it is medically warranted.  A c-section is considered major surgery and, as such, has numerous risks to consider that are not involved with a vaginal birth.  In addition, your insurance may also dictate what they will pay for and it may be any elective surgery is not a covered expense with your insurance carrier.  Your best course of action is to discuss you options with your doctor and check with your insurance company.  To some degree you can control your options, but there are a lot of unknowns when it comes to labor and births and sometimes your plans don't always work the way you want them too.  There are pros and cons to every type of birth.  Do some research on-line.  I have read several articles in parenting magazines discussing birth options.
