Can You Hold Down All The Strings (At the same time) on a guitar and still call it playing.?

I have to play for someone and i play only with all the strings hold down.is this acceptable. when i play it doesnt sound bad, but it doesnt sound good.compared to chords.

  1. If you mean holding all the strings down behind frets so that they resonate then yes, otherwise it is a rhythm machine


  2. Well, I have a guitar and I am still learning but I think that's like impossible because....it just it...well....i would be called playing I guess if you can get the sound in, but if the sound is pretty much dead....then I don't think soo...

    If' it's got rhythm, than cnsidering it strumming or whatever you want to call it. If you can dance to it, sing to it, than it's playing even if it doesn't make sense.

  4. Holding down all the strings at the same time in the right order is called a chord.  Music is in the ear of the listener.  My definition of playing is not the same as yours.
