Question:

Can You Join the Peace Corps Multiple Times?

I am a junior in college, highly interested in applying for the Peace Corps. I went to a recruiting session so I know basically everything there is to know. I just was wondering if the Peace Corps is something you're only allowed to volunteer for once, the two year-three month term, or if you can keep volunteering for them your whole life, as long as you pass the health exams, etc.? I'd very much be interested in doing that. Thanks for any info you may have.

  1. Many factors will determine your willingness and ability to volunteer for multiple terms.  My suggestion to you is to speak to  the recruiter who conducted your recruiting session and get the facts from him or her.  While I was in the Peace Corps I was aware of several volunteers who 'extended' or repeated their tours.  I am also aware of volunteers who used their experience as a spring board to other overseas opportunities.

Many returned volunteers actually work for the Peace Corps.  Please visit the Peace Corps website at www.peacecorps.gov to explore continuing education, employment and alternate volunteer opportunities.
