I was going to get a goldfish today and put it with a girl betta so I won't have to buy another aquarium. Is it ok to do that?

  1. LOL um I have two girl bettas with 2 goldfish In a 30gl tank and they love it! No problem what so ever! They've shared a tank going on two years! Before the 30gl tank last year they all were in a 20gl and before I got my 2nd gold fish my 1st goldfish and the bettas lived in a 10gl tank no problems so I don't think it'll be a problem! Best of luck (;

  2. no

    bettas are tropical

    goldfish are coldwater

    i am pretty sure goldfish are omnivores not herbivores

  3. Gold fish need cold water, around mid sixties. Bettas need tropical temperatures around mid seventies. plus goldfish need at least 20 gallon tanks, to live to their potential size. Don't get a goldfish. The only reason I would ever buy a goldfish is for feeding cichlids or for an outdoor pond. If your tank is 5-10 gallons just get 2 more female bettas. Or if its heated you can get a rubberlip pleco, african dwarf frogs, or coryadoras catfish (minimum of 3). ;D Sam

  4. No, you can't because betta fish are also known as "fighting fish," and will get very violent if they're in a tank with other fish.

  5. No.  Bettas prefer temps near 80 F, while goldfish are cold water and go best in water of 60 -68 F.  Also, the goldfish would dirty the tank faster, creating a need for additional tank cleaning and water changes.

    Unless you have at least a 20 gallon tank for a goldfish, you shouldn't get one, even without the betta.

    Oops, should have read the other answers before answering.  So, I obiously agree with Mokey.

  6. Nope. A goldfish is a cold water fish a betta is a warm water fish. And they just don't mix. The goldfish alone would need a 20 gallon tank.

  7. No, a betta needs tropical temperatures around 80F and a goldfish is a coldwater fish that likes temperatures in the high 60's.  Also one goldfish needs a 20 gallon tank with excellent filtration and goldfish are herbivores while a betta is a carnivore.  They just don't go together at all.
