  1. I have a 1080 P 47 inch and I think it is a wonderful picture. We have all the special cords to enhance the picture. My husband told me that there is no such thing as a 1080 P picture yet actually. He said that it is coming out in another year and that they are selling the TVs now despite the 1080P signal not being available yet. The salesman at Best Buy also told me this.

  2. I worked in a shop selling HDTVs for work experience at school, there were two TVs next to each other running the film Cars from the same stream, one was outputting on a 720p TV, the other on a 1080p TV, both 37" Samsung models.

I've got to say the difference was huge, there was a clear lack of detail on the 720p TV in comparison.

Though, as for what dewingedfairy said; Nearly all BluRay films are 1080p, it doesn't matter about broadcasting.

  3. its different

  4. If you're really close and watching a true HD production, you will see a small difference.

  5. Truthfully, with a quality unit, you will most likely have to get right on top of it and be really, really picky!  I've watched Panasonic plasmas in both resolutions, with the same content and displayed side by side and found very little difference!

A lot of it depends on the manufacturer, if they build a quality unit that includes other picture enhancing features other than resolution, you'll have a good result.  Resolution in TVs is just like pixels or mega pixels in digital cameras.  If a camera is a 10 megapixel but has a crappy lens, you're gonna have crappy pictures.  There are a lot of "things" that add up to a good picture, not just resolution.
