The first thing a kid should notice is "natural, environmentally-friendly" are advertising words. They're meant to get you to feel a certain way, they don't say anything about what is going on.

Talc (baby powder) is chemically inactive - inert. It works like a blotter, soaking up chemicals on the surface of the talc particles when the powder is stirred into the water. When the water slows down, the talc settles out. None of the chemicals from the wastewater have been changed. The people making the statement want you to think this is a good thing. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

I think you had trouble with the sentence because it really didn't say anything, not because you didn't understand it. The reference explains wastewater treatment without using too many loaded words. You may have to read it more than once, and you might need a dictionary, but you will know something when you're finished.

I've been in the wastewater treatment field for years, but I never heard of talc being used for this purpose.  Moreover, there is so much non-organic, toxic c**p in sewage that in many cases, the fertilizing value is doubtful.   For many years, Milwaukee, WI sold its dry sludge as "Milorganate", but I believe it had to discontinue this.

i have been to a town in Mexico that lived near agriculture that worked with raw sewage and more than 50%(according to the local doctors)of the people in the town,where sick with a variety of stomach complaints related to the vegetables they ate,

to use Sludge from sewage directly can be lethal .

if the sewage had gone through a composting process it would have been OK

the decomposition changes the nature completely and the heat kills the harm full pathogens.

this is what happend in sewage lakes ,the aquatic plants above the water lift out the metals with the growth of leaf material

and there is intense activity from micro organisms

so yes fertilizing but not of value rather irresponsible bordering on criminal

Talc is really sweet. It doesn't hurt the environment. And it has a gazillion minerals in it (which is good for you). It's the opposite of chlorine or aluminum salts. Talc is better thing to use to clean stuff instead of chlorine or aluminum salts. Another cool thing about talc is that because it's so lazy and barely doesn't move (it doesn't react), we can use talc for sewage sludge so it doesn't decompose (if things react, then it changes to something else. but since it doesnt, it stays the same).

I think "inert" would be the better word to use. "Relaxed" is hardly appropriate since "inert" would be best described as unmoving, or dull. Aiding kids to expand their understanding of words, as well as expanding their vocabulary is a good thing. Let's not be so eager to dumb them down because some of us might be to lazy, or under educated ourselves.
