I am wanting to use two modems (they are different) in the same house and on the same contract. The are both BT modems but different models. I do not want to have to pay double because I am using two modems.

  1. No, you can't use more than one piece of ADSL terminal equipment on one line.

  2. Why do you want to use 2 modems?

If you want to be able to use the internet on multiple computers then your best option is to buy a switch which is much cheaper then a modem and will allow many computers to use that same internet connection.

  3. nope unless you turn one modem of or disable DHCP on one of them then take LAN wire and conect them both to each other

  4. Sorry, no.

BT usually "gives" you a small USB modem. It is designed to allow only one computer to connect to their internet connection.

You do, however, have options for sharing this connection. The first is a bit complicated. It involves networking your two computers through their ethernet (NIC) cards and turning ON internet sharing on the computer that's connected to BT.

For the second computer to be online, the first must be as well.

The second solution... and much more simple... is to buy a modem &network router that uses the ethernet (hard wired or wireless) to your computer.

I use DSL rather than a cable connection. I connect my broadband phone line to my Zoom Telephonics X6 model and enter the necessary login info through the hard wired computer. Zoom Tech Support was very helpful in setting this up. That connects me to the internet. Now I connect all my computers (one more with a wire, and my laptop one with my wireless card) to the X6.

Not only are all computers on the internet, but I can network them on my own personal local area network (LAN) to share files, programs, music and movies, and have only one printer that serves them all. I do have a networkable printer, though

If BT uses cable, not DSL, you'd need a stand alone wireless router to do the job of connecting the modem to multiple computers.

    Hope this helps.
