  1. yes no restriction for that.

  2. You can absolutely bring an MP3 Player on a planehttp://www.delta.com/traveling_checkin/i...

(I know it's from Delta's website, but it applies to all of the airlines.)

Other restrictions and regulations to know about:

^^ This is ONLY for CARRY ON luggage. Checked luggage has no restrictions.

    - Prohibited/Allowed Items:

Hope that helps. Try to keep busy until your boyfriend comes - it'll make the time pass more quickly! :)

  3. yes absolutely, I always take my ipod to different places

  4. yes you can. When they say all electronic devices can be used then your boyfriend can play his mp3 player

  5. ipods are ok- they'll tell you to turn it off during takeoff and landing.

things they took away from me during travel:

nail polish, water, other liquids (unless in a plastic bag with the allowable amount), xacto knife, small scissors...

surprising things they didn't take away so far:

nail clipper, shaver, tweezer, anything in my makeup bag...

Since you mentioned it's his first flight, I'd suggest not taking American Airlines anytime. We had a horrible experience with their inconsistent policies and customer service agents for a domestic flight to Las Vegas. We'll never fly with them again:
