I have a 10 weeks old who's been on Zantac for two days and she has been sleeping ALOT ever since I gave her the first dose. She's been sleeping soo much more than usual that I didn't even get the chance to give her the second dose (she gets one in morning and one in the evening 1ml each) because she was asleep.

  1. My son was on ranitidine (Zantac) from 6 months to 14 months for reflux.  He was on one dose of 1 ml/day.  I am wondering why they started your 10 week old with 2 ml/day... but, I am not a dr...

I did not find my son to be extra sleepy while taking the meds.  I did find his stool to change (more greasy.. almost like the stomach acid wasn't strong enough to break down his food... so, I lowered the dose to .7ml and it seemed better)

Anyways, the only reason I can think your daughter is sleeping better/more is because she isn't bothered as much by the reflux.  It is allowing her to get the sleep she needs but she couldn't before because of the pain she was in.

It is a long hard road... and I do feel for you.. knowing what you are going through.  It is not fun having a baby with reflux.

But, When my son turned 13 months (he was a preemie) he stopped puking, and was much better.  Usually they say at one year reflux gets better... and that seemed to be the case here.

We are still dealing with many other problems (like a hypersensitive gag reflex) because of the 13 months of puking at least 2 meals a day... But, with much prayer hopefully we will get through this and this stage will also pass.

Hope all goes well for you, and since that have your girl getting treatment early on, you won't have the same problems.

    All the best!

  2. I would take baby back to doctors if you read the reactions on the instructions im sure one of them is sleepy !  read the instructions then go from there

  3. Sleepiness is not one of the listed side effects of Zantac.  I would call her doctor see what they recommend.

  4. Firstly, try not to listen to the people that say you have compromised her health. I am sure that you have been prescribed Zantac for your baby by a professional for perhaps reflux or indigestion. My Daughter is 12 weeks old and on Zantac for reflux and has 0.4ml three times a day, it's her 3rd day and I haven't noticed that she is anymore sleepy but I do remember that at 10 weeks she went through a week of just sleeping more than usual...I got all excited and thought we had cracked her sleeping through the night but alas, within 7 days she was back to waking every 4 hours again. If your Daughter is showing no other signs of discomfort or illness, isn't hot, limp or lethargic when awake and is still feeding as per normal then I wouldn't worry but if in doubt, contact your Doctor.

  5. Babies have tiny tiny bodies so one little pill can do a LOT.

  6. I would definitely talk to your pediatrician, since your baby should not be sleeping that much. I'm sure you could also try to look up the side effects on websites like www.webmd.com, just to see if there's more information. But if I were you, I would stop the medication immediately and call the doctor, since something doesn't seem right. Hope she's better soon!

  7. my gal just started it a few days ago and it hasn't seemed to have any side effects for her; and the pharmacist said it shouldn't so i would call doc and ask to make sure all is well

  8. Is this prescribed by a Dr?

I'm 30 and take Zantac for heartburn, it does not make me sleepy.

  9. I dont think babies are suppossed to take that.
