  1. Biking can be dangerous however my entire family has been riding and fourwheelin since we could walk ; )

  2. I started riding at age 13. With proper protective gear , dirt riding is safe. I'm 60 yrs of age now and never got hurt on a motorcycle. I believe by learning to ride at a younger age helped me in being a respondable rider today.

  3. well yeah i totally agree but i have some frenz who are younger than you and the dirt bike all the time so i would just relate some experiences to where it might persuade them to get oyu one...plus ur turning a teenager you should get that lol.....^.^

  4. Yes you can and werdd has a great answer. By going to an organized ride you will have peers around and people to offer tips and suggestions. This is a great hobby and a real confidence builder. Buy dirt bike equipment and crash protection ( you'll spend about 250 dollars). Go for cheap boots but not a cheap helmet.

Get a bike that fits, with out being there I would say one foot flat on the ground to start( There are no stop signs out there. Why should mom and dad trust you when you are riding on the back side of the hill out of sight? Because you have demonstrated trust in small matter around the home.

So work on this and ask nice. I'd stat with dad, moms are kind of funny about things that wont stand up by themselves. Good luck, have fun.

  5. Yeah well i'm 15 and i started riding dirtbikes/fourwheelers/jetskis at the age of 8. just show your parents you are responsible enough take them somewhere and borrow some one's and show them you aren't going to be a dumbass with it.

  6. It is an extremely rare occurrence that someone dies on a dirt bike and if they do it is a result of not wearing a helmet. Many people do die on 4 wheelers for that very reason. Yes a 12 year old can ride a dirt bike, many kids start racing at 4 or 5. You are far more likely to get a serious injury, such as a broken bone, playing football or soccer than you are to get an injury like that riding a dirt bike. I have been riding and racing for 30 years now and just got my nephew into motocross. I would never have even considered putting him on a dirt bike unless I knew how safe it was.

  7. No - you don't need one - you are too young - but depends on where/when you might ride one.

Sounds like fun, but they are dangerous.

More people may be killed in cars, but there are more cars. Cars are necessary in order to function in life, dirt bikes are not.

  8. I've seen 5 year olds riding dirt bikes.

Riding a motorcycle on the street isn't exactly the safest past time.

Put that in comparison to ski diving - make a mistake and I'd rather take my chances on a bike.

You can get just as hurt riding a bicycle as you can on a dirt bike.

A dirt bike is actually safer because of all the safety gear you're wearing and the suspension allows the rider to be in more control than a bicycle in the dirt.

Anyone with a bicycle can do this -

The bicyclist was wearing shorts, sneakers, a short sleeve shirt with no safety padding - not exactly safe if he were to crash.

What makes a motorcycle any more dangerous?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKp_rdV2w...

The motorcyclist was wearing motocross leathers with knee pads & hip guards, heavy duty motocross boots with steel tip toes and ankle guards, leather motocross gloves with finger padding, a chest protector with shoulder pads a full face helmet with a chin guard.

  9. yes i started riding things at 3 and when i was 10 i whent to moto bikes

  10. I rode a dirt bike at ages 12 and 13 (I'm a 40-year-old woman).  But if you want to ride, you must first have all the proper safety equipment AND a safe area to ride.  Dirt bikes should not be on streets in neighborhoods, and ideally should be driven in a wide open space or a track made specifically for dirt bikes.

I suggest you approach your parents by asking if they would consider it if you had the proper gear and a safe place to ride (with supervision, of course).  Do some research on safety gear and show them you are trying to be responsible.  And, if they agree, do not break their trust by neglecting to wear the gear and not following the rules.

Last suggestion - try to find a place where you can pay to ride a dirt bike in a controlled environment.  Maybe you can test out your skills and improve your confidence as well as show your parents you can handle it.

Don't forget that even with all that, your parents still have the right to keep you from doing ANY activity that they don't approve of (for safety or personal reasons).  I know it is hard for you to understand the fear of your parents, but it is not a nice feeling.  We parents don't like additional reasons to worry about our kids.  So, if they say no, ask again in a year or two.

    Good luck!
