I am 16 1/2 and I have a Massachusetts drivers license. Can I drive alone in New Jersey or do I have to drive with someone else with a license? I know you have to be 17 to get I license in New Jersey if you live there but since I already have a license from another state, am I allowed to drive there?

  1. there are restrictions on when a driver younger than 17 can drive and with how many passengers, etc.

here's the number for the new jersey MVC (DMV equivalent)  if you would like to call and make sure, just to be safe, but i'm pretty sure you would be able to drive, you'd just have to follow the young drivers laws here.

  2. Darcy is correct for some states, but not all.  Several states here and there have age requirements of their own regardless of whether or not you hold a valid license.  You should check with NJ and see if they waive their age requirement for out-of-state drivers.

  3. I'm pretty sure once you get your license in any state, you can drive in others.
