Can a 17 year old file for unemployment in ny state?

If a 17 year old who is working full time in the summer, and is going to be a senior in the fall is let go from his job... can he claim unemployment benefits?

  3. No.  A summer job isn't enough time to earn UE benefits -- you generally need 6 to 12 months of continuous employment -- and since you're going to be in school you are not ready to accept immediate employment.

  4. You might be eligible, since you say in your added info that you worked there for over a year.  It will depend on how much you made at the job each quarter.  Apply and see what they say.
