Can a 17 year old have their car insurance under their name and not the parents?

I'm turning 17 soon and I was wondering if I can have my car insurance under MY name, not my parents being 17 in the state of New Jersey

  1. is the car titled in your name?  yes than should be able but will cost more.  if no then no.


  2. No. No minor in the US can legally enter into a binding contract. If you want insurance in your name, you will need to wait until you are 18.

  3. Not likely. You have to be 18 to actually own a car, thus your parents must be registered as owner with the insurance company as secondary driver.
