I'm currently 16 years old and am wanting to get a motorcycle when i turn 17, im aware that i would have to take my cbt which would enable to to ride a restricted 125cc bike, but would i be able to take an intensive course and skip the whole 125 section streight to a larger bike, like a 400cc (though restricted to 33bhp for 2 years), i already know the controlls on a motorcycle and all of the bases of how to ride one.

  1. I am guessing you live in the UK.

The first question I have to ask is why don't you want to ride a 125cc bike? Yes, they are not very powerful but I rode one for a year before I passed my test and it was all right. I was driving in a city and along a dual carriage way and it was able to get me up to 45mph perfectly fine. Most 125 cc will reach 70, but aren't really suitable for motorway driving.

If you want to skip the 125 cc stage, the only thing you can do is pass your test. The problem is that the test requires you to have good skills on the bike and be able to ride it well. That only comes with experience. It may be possible to simply get lessons and not actually buy a bike, but it will be expensive and it will take quite a while (examiners are very aware that bikes are dangerous and want to make sure you are safe before they give you your licence).

The CBT will teach you the basics of riding safely, but you will not be allowed anything more powerful than a 125 until you can demonstrate you are a safe driver and actually pass your test.

  2. laws are changing very soon,I'm not up to date on them  but a direct access coarse is what you need to take..as far as I'm aware once this is passed you can ride any bike...

  3. I'm 17 and I own a 2006 R1(1000CC).

I have class CM license, I don't know where you live that has all of those rules/restrictions.

The only problem I had was I tried to get my regular license(Class C)and my motorcycle license(Class M) on the same day. The State of Tennessee makes you hold a valid Class C or D license 3 months before you can get your motorcycle license. I now have both (Class C and M).

Here you can ride whatever size bike you want. The bigger you go the more your parents have to pay for insurance though.

The only thing my parents tell me is that if I get 1 ticket, I have to pay the insurance myself.

  4. Wow...For the love of god please  don't get a motorcycle. Clearly you are too immature to be on the road with one, I'd even go as far as to say you're too immature to be on a public road with a car.

  5. Hey man ya you can as long as you get the right license i just bout my kawasaki ninja 250 3 days ago and ride all the time bikes are so fun.. i'm also 17 i might add so i know for a fact as long as you get it tagged, insured and the correct license your ok
