I have a 2 yr old step son and he has problems with crying. He cries over little things, and we don't know why. His mom can simply go to the bathroom, and he cries and cries. He will start to cry if you fix him dinner and give it to him. You can simply say " Eat your food like a big man!" and he starts balling his eyes out. He is in daycare, and the daycare lady says he cries there and won't play with the other kids. She says he has to be held most of the time when they go to play.

He also has problems playing with his step brothers, and even cries when his younger brother tries to play with him. He seems to prefer to play alone.

He also seems to want to be babied alot. You can try to have him simply pull his clothes off, or at least try and he cries. He wants to be fed by others rather than feeding himself, etc.

Is this just normal for some kids, or is this something we should mention to his pediatrician?

  1. Maybe he needs some intense mama connections  kids really do need their mothers...when something is bothering a child, everything starts bothering them and making them cry....make sure he gets a little special mama time every day, and have her explain to him and tell him stories about how even when they are not together she is still loving him and thinking about him.  He could blow her kisses in the morning when she leaves and she could put them in her pocket..Of course she can't pick him up every single minute, but some understanding and reassurance might go a long way.  Anyway, my point is he's still really little, and it's hard growing up, and he needs to know he has not lost his mother completely.  Have here explain it to him each time for a while...I am going to the bathroom now, and I need some privacy but when I come out I'm going to give you a great big hug! So he knows that her leaving doesn't have anything to do with him, and that she really loves him and will always come back.

  2. I would def say something to his doctors my son cries alot to but over normal bratty stuff like he can't have a game but to cry because he was asked to take clothing off is well off. Now my Daughter wont eat unless you feed her and she is four but that is because she can't stop talking ong enough or gets distracted and she was becoming underweight so I still feed her but the cring that much over simple thing would worry me it is not of the norm He might have a social disorder. GL

  3. Sounds a lot like the terrible twos. However, It could be more in-depth. You stated that he has a step-brother. Maybe family changes are troubling him and  that is why he is seeking more attention. Maybe he needs to be reassured that everything will be o.k. The child's biological parent may want to take him to the park or ice cream and just spend time with him. As for being babied, I would state to him " You are a big boy and can do that" He is just two so maybe he will grow out of it. If these issues seem to escalate I would def talk to your doctor though.

  4. He WANTS MOM TO HIMSELF HE DOESN'T WANT TO SHARE IF MOM BABIES HIM ALL THE TIME IT WORKS HE  GETS HIS WAY DOES MOM TEND TO PICK HIM UP OR BABY HIM RIGHT AWAY. IF SHE DOES THEN HE GETS HIS OWN WAY YES YOU NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE EVEN JOIN A PARENTING GROUP  OR LOOK ONLINE.
