I have an OLD sears air compressor that i just rebuilt the pump on , upon getting both cylinders working , the motor no longer runs good on 110v. It's NOW wired for 110v , but the motor says 230v. It ran before on 110 v with just one cylinder pumping , but now with both cylinders working it only runs maybe 30 seconds and then slows down and stops. When I got it , it was wired the way it is now , by the last incompetent owner !

  1. No it cant unless inside the motor there is a option for 110 volt that you can switch, you will just burn the motors out

Yes it will run very poorly and evently burn out and yes to wire back to 220 v use the white and black as hot wires

If you really wanted to you could bring it to a motor repair shop and they could convert it to 110v

  2. Yes it is possible and quite common for qualified professional electricians to change the wiring in the motor. If it is accessible at the motor leads, it takes about 5 minutes if you know how.  The access plate should be very close to where the power cord goes in the motor. How it is done varies from motor to motor, but it is a matter of moving one wire to another position.  Can not tell you what without a great deal more information.  Good Luck.
