Can a 24" IMac computer in the original box be pass as baggage in the airport?

I'm traveling to Puerto Rico from NY and i'm taking my IMac in the original box. Can i take it with me and pass it as baggage or should i send it by mail?

Hmm. I would put Fragile/This side up stickers EVERYWHERE if I did bring it by plane. The risk is that someone will break it while loading, and I'm not quite sure if it would be easier to do that, or to send it via fragile shipping. I would most likely ship it, unless you talk to the airlines and they say it's fine.
