I use a 2nd battery for an electric trolling motor and have a 15 watt solar panel to assist in the charging but would like to wire the battery so the evinrude could recharge the battery after the starting battery is charged...

  1. yes yes yes     get a switch and change batterys but    it may not charge a large deep cycle batt that you need on short drives

  2. Your motor has a 4-amp (possibly a 6-amp) alternator...it would take hours and hours of full throttle running to keep the trolling motor charged.

One way to more than double your T/M run time is to add a 2nd battery wired in parallel with the first.  They need to be matched as to capacity and condition.

  3. It's designed to keep a fully charged battery charged not charge a 1/2 1 up> You can put a 3 way battery switch in and switch when running it will help up not much>

  4. Jtexas is on target. The 4 amps was at a pretty high rpm, so effectively it wouldn't charge much up.  They did make a 10 amp kit, for retro fit. but it's not much better.  The battery switch won't help.
