Can a 98-02 v6 Firebird engine fit into a 97 Firebird ?

i have blown heads and would it be cheaper to do a engine swape.

  1. It should fit.  Pontiac was using the 3800 series V6 in both the 97 and 98+ models.  You could actually replace the V6 with the 5.7 liter V8.  The 97 used an LT1 and the 98+ used an LS1 but either will fit.


  2. Yes it will fit. The only real difference between the 97 Firebird and the 98-02 is body styling. The frame stayed the same.

    If you are doing an engine swap, take a look into swapping in an LT1 or even an LS1 V8, it may be a little more expensive, but it would be a good project and definitely a starting point for more projects.

  3. Yeah man the engines are almost identical. It will fit. You might need different motor mounts.

  4. what you need to do is look carefully at both cars engine bays (easier if the engines are out) and possibly take a pic of both and compare the dimensions of both...if both look similar and have the same motor (3.8L?) then it should work just fine and all the wiring should be the same as well.  

  5. no problems with the swap although you will probably need to use your old intake manifold its always good to change that b*****d leaking intake gasket
