Can a Ballistic Parachute System be installed in a Boeing stearman?

  1. The ballistic parachute for the Cirrus aircraft is built into the cockpit structure. To do that for a Stearman would require a complete tearup of the structural design of the aircraft. It's a total redesign; unfortunately, not as easy as just bolting it on.


  2. A ballistic parachute can be installed in any aircraft, but they will be unique to that craft. Since the Staerman is heavier a larger, more expensive chute would have to be installed.

    BTW it is Cirrus, not Cessna  that have ballistic chutes.

  3. The ballistic parachute system could be fitted to any aircraft. But the system is designed to save occupants, not the aircraft. So usually it would be at the expense of the aircraft. Not gentle.
