Can a Civil Engineer with enough experience become a Project Manager?

I am going for Bachelor in Civil Engineering but I would like to know if somewhere along the line can I become a Project Manager at a construction site?

  1. Yes you can.  

    To increase your chances you should also consider getting your EIT and then PE as well as PMP.  The EIT is engineer in training and the PE is a professional engineer.   The PMP is a project management professional.

    The EIT you should take your junior to senior year of college or once you graduate.  To be eligible for the PE you must work under a PE for two years and then you can take a PE test.  You can then be licensed in the state you receive your PE from.

    The PMP is a certificate for Project Management Professional.  Typically you will need 2 years experience to be eligible to take the PMP and you are required to take some sort of training.  You don't need a PMP to be a PM on a construction site, but it can't hurt and will serve as a useful certificate.
