Can a DVR service record shows that aired prior to you getting the service?

I recently decided to get DirecTV satellite service, including a DVR. The problem is, the installation isn't until the 8th, and Sci Fi is airing a Twilight Zone marathon on the 3rd and the 4th. That's my favorite show and I was really hoping to see the marathon, since it's a tradition here.

So here's what I'm wondering...when my satellite service is finally hooked up and I have that nifty DVR, would I be able to basically go back in time and select that programming from a menu or something? Or does DVR only work for future programming, and not for the past?

I thought they'd be able to install it in time when I ordered a few days ago. It sucks, and I'm upset that I'm missing my tradition, but oh well. :(

  1. No. Your only hope is if the show is rebroadcast or offered via On Demand.

Of course, being Twilight Zone, all the episodes are available on DVD.

  2. well in New Zealand we have "sky online" which lets you download like sports replays and movies but no you cant record anything that has already aired.
