Can a Fish Regrow It's Tail???

I have a whole bunch of feeder fish in my pond with my 4 turtles.

But, when i checked the fish today, i noticed one with it's tail completely gone (I suspect the turtles). i caught the fish out and put it in the fish tank to help it heal. It looks pretty serious to me, no part of the tail fin is there, but it could still swim at least.

  1. you shouldn't put turtles with most fish i had these huge gold fish with my 3 turtles at first they had some small bite marks on their tails and flippers but it didn't seem like a big deal at the time until one a fish was gone i thought it jumped out a week later they were dead and the turtles were eating them including my rare betta plus the turtles weren't even that big not as big as my fish so i took out the turtles and got more fish also watch out because some turtles may resort to cannibalism if one is smaller than the other i had that the turtle almost died but as for your question some fish may grow back their tails depending on the species but i don't know whitch ones i hoped this long story helped.

  2. yes it can

  3. It should, but sometimes they don't. Just keep it in a fanatically clean quarantine tank and don't stress it out. Hope it recovers!

  4. If you're talking about feeder goldfish, then the pond needs to provide at least 100 gallons of water per fish....they get HUGE.  Anyway.... yes, tails will re-grow as long as only the tail is missing.  If any part of the fish's body was eaten, the tail won't grow back.

  5. if it is feeder fish, why do you care if the tail is gone? the point is for the turtle to eat them right? so let the freakin turtles eat the freaking fishless tail.

  6. Yes, they do grow back.  But when it's severe like yours sounds like, it won't necessarily look the same.  Keep the water quality good by doing frequent water changes to prevent infection.  You could try a little MelaFix as well, that works good for injuries to fins/tails.  I would probably also add some PimaFix to help prevent bacterial and fungal infections from starting.
