Can a Garmin GPS tell the speed you are going...or better yet your speed limit?

I'm thinking of buying a garmin gps...and want to know if it will tell me my speed that I am going.

  1. I've got a cheap Navman and that tells me how fast I'm going to the nearest kmph, so I'd imagine a Garmin would do the same.

    Try looking on their website for the product features.

Most GPS receivers will tell you your speed.  Some receivers will also display the speed limit of the road you are traveling on.  The nuvi 750 does this for highways and interstates, and I think there are some other nuvi models that tell you the speed limit.  I saw a Navigon model that claimed to have speed limit data as well.  However, I wouldn't rely on the GPS receiver for speed limits since the map (and therefore speed limit) data is already several months out of date by the time the GPS receiver is manufactured.

  3. So far I've owned 3 GPS and they all tell MPH.  The great thing is that they all agree and the MPH reading is little bit lower than the car speed.  So I figure that the car speedo is intentionally set to be little bit higher so people don't get tickets driving at the very edge of the speed limit.
