  1. You are still eligible to join, even if you are home schooled. Explorers meet on a regular basis, and discuss a different police related topic.

There are no competitions, and there are no physical requirements. Explorers are observers only, and do not get directly involved.

The answers to the rest of your questions will vary, depending on what post you join.

  2. My son joined and he was home schooled.  The meetings covered different law enforcement topics.  One meeting per month was PT (physical training) which was pretty rigorous, like running 3-4 miles with the post.  The post my son was a part of (a California PD) did participate in the annual statewide Explorer competition.  3-4 Explorers from his post were selected each year to represent the post at the statewide competition in marksmanship, clearing buildings, and other activities.  As for the interview, it was with one lieutenant in a pretty small dept.  You might be asked why you want to be an Explorer (or have an interest in law enforcement) and what you have to offer.

  3. I would call the police department, ask for the officer who does the Police Explorers..and have a meeting and get all of your questions answered.
