Can a KLR 250 and a KX250 use the same gas tank?

We just bought a 1990 Kawasaki KLR250 but the tank is completely rusted out; we found a tank from a 1989 KX250 on Craigslist but we don't know if they are interchangable. If they are not, are there any other tanks we could use or do we have to stick with the KLR tanks?

  1. I doubt that it would fit properly.

  2. The klr is a street legal enduro whereas the kx is a motocrosser. The klr has a steel tank and the kx a plastic one. Check out your local kawy dealer and ask him. If the gas line is on the same side it probably will but if you dump the klr on the road it may do a number on the tank.
