Yes you may , if you travel by LAND.  If you FLY you must have a passport.  After SUMMER 2008, you will also need a passport for land travel.  You cannot get a U.s. passport until you become a U.S. citizen, so when you start needing a passport, you must use your Mexican passport.   If you do not have a Mexican passport, you need to contact the nearest Mexican consulate to get one, or go to the passport office while you are in Mexico.  As a green card holder, you are required to maintain a current passport from your home country at all times.
