Can a MiniSD card's contents be recovered if it isn't recognized in the cell phone and card reader?

Suddenly I stopped getting access to the card in the phone, tried in the reader, no luck. I have fresh stuff on the card that isn't backed up yet... important stuff actually. Are there any services that do hard recovery of these media? I presume it won't be doable via software... What do you think? Thanks!
