Can a Minor Work For a Private Run Business?

Hi im 13 and live in the state of NJ. So i recently have been saving for a gibson les paul. Unfortunately all the places around me require you to be 16. I live in the area of a few private owned businesses you know bike shops, guitar stores you know private owned. If one of them agree to hire me do i need paper or am i even aloud to work for them? And before i get anybody telling me to mow lawns i already do that :o
