Can a OMC Cobra outdrive be changed to shift the same as a Mercruiser?

Both merc and omc use interrupt switches to aid shifting ,merc shorts the coil completly to shift ;the omc cobra uses a shift module that causes the coil to skip every other cylinder to aid shifting . The question is, can the cobra be set up the same as the merc.?

  1. Yes, you can change the cobra cut out to the same as the merc. I have changed a couple of the cobra legs now to operate the same as the merc and have found clutch disengaging a lot easier.All you are doing is basically killing the motor for a couple of seconds whilst the positive ramping on the dog clutch is disengaged from either the forward or reverse gear.
