In a question about leadership and principle several people stated that the President should only represent and follow the will of the people. The problem with this statement is that it is really impossible for one man to represent all of the people. This is because not everyone has the same desires and needs. This is one oof the reasons why we have a Congress. So that different people can have their voices heard at a national level. Can any President really effectively govern by representation and would this not be considered a form of "Tyranny of the Majority"if he/she did? In short, should Presidents make decisions based on all the data available, even if that decision may be unpopular, or just follow the will of the people in the current day's polls?

  1. You are correct. A true democracy is a failed concept (see ancient Greece). We live in a Constitutional Republic that believes the individual must also be protected from the majority (mob rule). otherwise, we would need no elected officials and would vote on every issue. That would lead to voter fraud on a grand scale!
