It is either Stator or trigger is what my husband was told. I know it fires on a couple but not all is what my husband says

  1. knowing the year would be a help. If it is firing on a few- you might be able to hook all the spark plugs to a tester call an "octopus".  Take out all the spark plugs.-look for metal in the plugs or water. Next spin the motor over and see who fires and when. If you hook them up by firing order you will see one fire out of order. Get a small rubber hammer and tap each coil gently while watching it spark. Still no clue? disconnect the throttle lever and advance it and r****d it while the motor is spinning. If you suddenly get all your coils to fire you have found broken wires in the trigger. If thru all this the same coil misfires-hook the wires from a good coil to it and see if the malfunction follows a coil-then you have a bad coil.

While all the spark plugs are out- give it a compression test. They should be all nearly the same.  If you are going to buy a compression tester get one with a detachable rubber line as the bottom plug hole is a bear.

  2. stator, thats the culprit and yes they can be tested with a multimeter but you have to get the repair manuel to do it
