Can a TV be damaged,if it is turned off at the plug without firstly putting it into standby or tv off switch?

Could it cause the internal circuits to fuse, would it cause a power surge?

  2. I would not do that if it is a projector or rear projection TV because that might need to cool down.  But I shouldn't think it should matter for LCD, plasma, or CRT.
