My husband has applied for Canadian Permanent Resident status. His application was filed from the States so that he can be mobile across the border. He will be staying with me in Canada while he waits for his application to process. He will be returning to the States from time to time if necessary to keep his visitor status in Canada valid. My question is can he work in the states since I live about 30 minutes from the border?

  1. Yes, he can travel to the US and continue working while he waits for his PR status.  Just make sure that you keep up with the process and file the necessary papers timely.    He may be put on a "visitor record" in Canada to ensure he isn't working or studying in Canada and that his status is still a visitor until he obtains his PR status.

Canada is very accomodating to allowing spouses to remain in Canada and travel freely across the border as long as they are keeping up with their application process and abiding by the regulations and not working illegally in Canada.
