I"am moving 410 miles away and instead of renting a u-haul, my son's Dad said that we should fillup his empty (no bathroom and stuff) 14 foot trailer of his and pull it with my 1994 Nissan Qwest van. It has a V6 motor and about 120 thousand miles. I told him I didn't think it would be a good idea, we would have to fork out about 200 dollars for a hitch for the van anyways, and it seems to me like the van may not be able to pull the 14 foot trailer up this 7 mile long hill we are gonna have to pull along the way with many other hills. Keep in mind we will have the van full of stuff and more than likely a big box on top of the van as i do not want to part with alot of stuff. And this 14 foot trailer will be filled to the rim with stuff and also there will be two rather large tool boxes full of tools, Thanks for your honest advice.....:)

  1. Your v6 engine has plenty of towing power to pull the trailor. You would just have to take it easy. The towing capacity should be in you owners manual. check that and dont exceed, if you do your looking for disaster.

  2. I would suggest you don't tow that trailer & all his stuff. It sounds like you will exceed the van's max towing capacity. When you get ready to go up that hill, you just might fry the engine or trans. Do you think that they would be willing to pay for repairs/towing etc...? The Quest is a good van, but it's not a 3/4 ton truck with a diesel engine & that's what you really need.

  3. I wouldnt take that chance -- if ur climbing hills and stuff ur better off just renting a truck from a rental car company or rent a u-haul.  Companies like Hertz and Avis and stuff rent full size trucks out.

I would not take the chance of trying to climb a hill and not having enough power.  Even if u did, u might only be going about 5mph up the hills.

Rent a FULL SIZE TRUCK - F150, siverado 1500, toyota tudra etc...
