Question:

Can a Yahoo Group have co-owners? 2 people listed as owners....?

If someone forms a Group and then abandons it, the folks who are left are in bad shape. If the group was NOT restricted, anyone can join ... including Porno and Spammers. NO ONE, including another moderator can make ANY changes in who may join or if messages are moderated or not ... UNLESS they are the OWNER. I have seen this situation more than once, and the group literally becomes useless unless you enjoy becoming a spammer or porno promoter. Since Yahoo does not permit a change of owners, a group like this is up the creek. I wondered if co-owners might help? If one became inactive, the other could at least run the group.

  1. locate the person with in the members list- click edit membership below their ID- scroll down and you'll see make moderator- make owner

someone in any group has to have the priviledges for this change- and yes, many many groups are MIA owners and unless there is a person with priviledges of that group, they remain ownerless. Yahoo at this time does not delete these groups nor appoint anyone to them

  2. [Edit] Adding details you requested. I'm unsure if you the actual Owner or actual Moderator of the group you are referring to. Only the group's owner can make a member an owner.  The group's moderator cannot do that.

This is how the group's Owner can make a member an Owner OR a Moderator

Sign in to the group and click on Members.

Click the Edit Membership link to the right of member's name that you want to promote.

Click the Change to Owner link OR Change to Moderator link.

On the next page, select notifications and privileges you wish to assign.

When finished, click the Make Owner OR Make Moderator button.

If you are the group's Moderator WITH the assigned privilege and NOT the Group Owner, you can  make a member a Moderator. (If you're Moderator WITHOUT the privilege you can't do the following)

Sign in to the group and click on Members.

Locate the member that you want to assign as moderator.

Click Edit Membership located underneath members name.

    Click Change to Moderator.

Scroll down and select the Notifications you want the new Moderator to receive.

Then underneath Moderator Privileges, select the privileges you wish to assign the person. (Delete this group is NOT recommended).

Click Make Moderator button on lower right side of page.

***If you are attempting to do this on a group where the owner is absent and you are not a privileged moderator of that group already, you cannot do any of the above.*****

Yes, a group can have more than one owner.  The original owner must make a member an owner.  The owner can make a member a moderator and assign ALL privileges to a member.  Either way, a group can continue to function if the original owner is absent.

So far as "abandoned" groups go, the owner even though absent must make a member an owner.  Such a shame to see good groups go the way of spammers!

  3. Yes a group can have two or more people running a group.  I co-own a group with two other girls.

To make someone an owner go to their information in the "Members" section and then click on where it says "Edit Status".  There will also be a little "pencil" icon close to that.  Click on that and you will see two options which are "Change to Moderator" and "Change to Owner".  Click on "Change to Owner" and then click "Save".
